With the Algarve having one of the most beautiful Coastlines in Southern Europe it was extremely hard trying to pick the top 5 beaches, with the golden sands, stunning views, crystal clear coves and each with its own unique charm that’s just waiting to be discovered.
The Meia Praia or Half Beach which it literally means is located near to Lagos and is very popular with families, surfers and even naturists. It is a very long and spacious stretch of sand, there is plenty of beach restaurants to choose from and is accessible with several parking areas and only a short distance from the train station that runs into Lagos town.
Next is the Praia da Marinha, situated between Carvoeiro and Albufeira, this beautiful beach features some great double-arch rock formations just off of the shore which are very popular with photographers. It is one of the most characteristic Algarvian beaches around which is also very popular with divers and snorkelers as the water is incredibly clear.
Near to Albufeira the Gale Beach is centrally located in the Algarve with interesting rock formations and in the summer months it can get very busy and popular with families and tourists where they can discover and explore the wondrous rock pools.
The Praia do Vau can be found between Alvor and Praia da Rocha in a horseshoe bay, when it is low tide you can walk around the rocks to Praia da Rocha, along several coved beaches. This stunning stretch of beach actually has a history of yellow clay and is said to be good for arthritis, so don’t be shocked if you see people walking round with yellow mud on them.
Finally Praia da Falesia, this lovely beach has glorious golden sands and absolutely amazing views along the bay, centrally located near to Vilamoura and the Golden Triangle. There are several access points at both ends of the cliffs. This is the perfect spot to watch the colours of the sky deepen in the sunset.
