Algarve is the southernmost region of Portugal. Algarve is the third richest region of Portugal, after Lisbon and Madeira. Its capital is Faro. The most popular place is Albufeira just 40 minute drive from Faro.

Albufeira is split into two main areas The Old Town and The Strip. Albufeira’s old town is a picturesque and relaxed area with pretty cobbled streets lined with restaurants, bars, cafes and shops. When you are looking for a nightlife, where the bars and clubs are open nearly 24 hours a day, head to “the strip” (Avenida Dr Francisco Sà Carneiro).

The Algarve is historic, areas of the Algarve formed part of an ancient trading route that out dates even the Romans. The site where Igreja Matriz (or the ‘Mother Church’) now stands has long been a place of worship. The current church was built in the 18th century, after the 1755 earthquake devastated Albufeira’s old parish church (which itself was originally an Arab mosque).
