On February 13, 1692, Glencoe was the scene of one of the bloodiest incidents in Scottish history. A group of soldiers, posing as friendly visitors, attacked their hosts – The Macdonald Clan – while sleeping. About 40 people were cruelly murdered. Since then, there have been reports of hearing screams in the valley and sightings of reenactments of the massacre, particularly on the date of the anniversary of this terrible event.

INVERARAY CASTLE

Inveraray Castle is apparently home to several ghosts. The most famous is perhaps that of the young harpist who, according to legend, was murdered by the men of the Duke of Argyll. It is said that whenever a family member is about to die, you can hear the harp music from the MacArthur Room. The last report of this phenomenon happened in 1949 when the 10th Duke died. In the Brown Library there are reports of music played by a bagpiper on the balcony and in the old kitchen a cheerful spirit laughing enthusiastically has been heard on some occasions.
