It was founded in 2003 in Melbourne, Australia by Adam Garone, Travis Garone, Luke Slattery, and Justin Coghlan, and attained registered charity status in 2006. Since 2004, the Movember Foundation charity has run Movember events to raise awareness and funds for men’s health issues, such as prostate cancer and depression, in Australia and New Zealand. In 2007, events were launched in Ireland, Canada, Czech Republic, Denmark, El Salvador, Spain, the United Kingdom, Israel, South Africa, Taiwan and the United States.

The mustache is the homegrown version of wearing a ribbon. It is all for a good cause to raise awareness of men’s health problems including prostate cancer, testicular cancer and mental health.

The November Challenge begins on the first day of November all the way through to the last day in November. Those taking part can register on the Movember Foundation website as well as raising as much as they can for charity.

You must be cleanly shaven to start the challenge On Halloween (or ‘shadoween’) your entire face should be smooth and free from hair. This includes the mustache region, including the entire upper lip and handlebar zones.

Absolutely no beards Guys, this isn’t ‘beard-vember’ – it is ‘MO-vember’ so embrace growing a big hairy slug on your top lip, so no cheating.

Mo etiquette ‘Each Mo Bro must conduct himself like a true gentleman,’ the Movember Foundation says.

In 2016 the Movember community championed men’s health in 21 countries across the world. Through the growth of more than half a million mustaches, we raised $80 million.
