Castro Marin is small Village located in the Eastern Algarve, approximately 90km from Albufeira. As in the majority of local villages, the traditional houses and narrow streets meet in the most stunning picturesque. Sharing the border with Spain, through the beautiful Guadiana River, you’ll definitely find beautiful spots for the best holiday photos.

Castro Marim Castle

Raiana fortress, in a dominant position on the Castle hill, protected at the time, the crossing point on the right bank of the mouth of the river Guadiana. Facing the Castle of Ayamonte on the opposite shore is the Ex-libris of the village and considered by the scholars as one of the most significant monuments of the Portuguese Middle Age in the region. It is integrated in the Natural Reserve of the Sapal de Castro Marim and Vila Real de Santo António, the panoramic view of the river, the zone of the Sapal, the mountains of the Algarve and Spain, the ‘Saline’ and the beaches of that coast is very much appreciated.

Saline SPA

Surrounded by natural beautiful scenery, the Saline SPA offers relaxation treatments, using the salt from the Castro Marim ancient Saline and allows the visitors to learn more about the traditional process of salt production.

São Sebastião Fort

The fort in the Serra do Cabeço, where a hermitage existed initially under the invocation of São Sebastião, demolished during the fortification works. Its importance stems from being the best preserved example of the extensive process of renovation of the village’s defensive system in the mid-seventeenth century.

Revelim de Santo Antonio

Built on an elevation known as Zambujal rock, east of the São Sebastião de Castro Marim Fort, it complements the defenses of the village, at the mouth of the Guadiana River, with the function of guarding the crossing and navigation of the river. This was ordered by the Council of War of D. João IV (1640-1656) during the period of the Restoration War.

Praia Verde

Praia Verde is a beach located between Alagoa and the Cabeço Beaches, and is sheltered by a pine forest of meager pines of the many of which were chopped down in the west zone for housing construction. With crystal clear water and white sands, Praia Verde is one of the jewels of the Algarve.

Due to its location the Atlantic Ocean provides a variety of fresh fish and shrimp; the Guadiana River the lampreys and eels, Sapal the crabs.
